TOWARD THE UNKNOWN REGION

This was... Chris Bent, playing what were the new singles of the late 60's

on Radio Seagull online every Friday and Saturday, midday and at midnight
overnight on 747Khz in the North of the Netherlands
and weekday nights on DAB+ in Havant via The Flash

30/31 January 2026
on board the LV18, Harwich Harbour

1970 & 1968

On Seagull I was hoping to go back to 1966 in 2026. The first week of releases (issue 107, 7 January 1966)  is ready to be included in a programme. However, life and time will not immediately allow this. So, we will continue with revised recordings for 1970 (minor edits, mainly for sound levels). They were recorded in the weeks leading up to lockdown in 2020. Something to very much look forward to will be when Les Newman arrives. That time was last week. The research department trepidatiously (spell checker indicates that word doesn't exist) swings into action...

It will be the end of March before Boris declares that we must return to our homes. In lockdown Les and I experimented with Zoom and Messenger and turned out some reasonably amusing programmes. As soon as life allows we will begin to investigate The New Singles of 1966, then in 2027 we'll cover those months of 1966 that we will have missed...

Meanwhile, on Mi Amigo radio from the LV18 anchored at Harwich, we begin playing The New Singles for 1968...

<>TWINKY, the movie featuring Honor Blackman, Jack Hawkins, Trevor Howard, Lionel Jeffries, Robert Morley,
Charles Bronsan and Susan George

A schoolgirl meets Charles Bronson, What could go wrong?
TWINKY, the theme tune written and sung by Carry On actor Jim Dale with these lyrics:

Twinky
I think you're growing up too soon, girl
Twinky
I think you're growing up too soon
I never met a girl like this before, Dumb
But pretty like a schoolgirl should be

Twinky
I think you're growing up too soon, girl
Take a look at her, sixteen summers and a month or two
Grown up lover when the girls can't see you

Twinky
You've woken up too soon
Pretty crazy, dizzy as a daisy, that's the game you play
Then you kiss and give the game away
And I forget about the Pretty young girl on a two wheel bike
All I see is a devil who looks like

Twinky
I think you're growing up too soon, girl
You try to live it up too soon
Secrets hidden by a great big grin
She's got something that the class can't share in

Twinky
You'll break your heart too soon
A little girl tyke, sort of Tinkerbell like, clowning all you can
When we touch I feel like Peter Pan
And I forget about the Pretty young girl on a two wheel bike
All I see is a Jezebel just like

Twinky
I think you're growing up too soon girl
You try to live it up too soon
Sixteen summers and a month or two
Grown up lover when the girls can't see you

Twinky
You've woken up too soon
A little girl tyke, sort of Tinkerbell like, clowning all you can
When we touch I feel like Peter Pan
And I forget about the Pretty young girl on a two wheel bike
All I see is a Jezebel just like

Twinky
I think you're growing up too soon girl
Twinky
You try to live it up too soon, girl Twinky

This Top of the Pops clip from 1970 epitomises the sounds and fashions of the day.
Can you spot the lookalikes of me and Kathy?

Apologies for the abrupt cut-offs at the end of some of these files.
